Australia to continue search efforts for MH370: FM

Xinhua, August 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

Australia will continue the search efforts for the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 after the Malaysian side confirmed that debris found last week belonged to the missing plane, the country's foreign minister said here Thursday.

"The finding of this debris on the Reunion is consistent with the search area that has been the focus of our attention," Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said on the sidelines of the ongoing foreign ministers' meetings of ASEAN and their dialogue partners.

Earlier on Thursday, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said the debris discovered on the French island of Reunion was confirmed to be from the missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370. He said Malaysia remained dedicated to finding out what happened on board the flight.

"It does give us some comfort that we'll be able to continue search efforts, and that will help the families find some answers to what is one of the greatest aviation mysteries of our time," said Bishop.

Prior to the latest discovery, a massive surface and underwater hunt failed to find the Boeing 777 plane, which went missing on March 8, 2014 en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 on board, most of them Chinese. Endi
