Aquino approves law on safety of children riding motorcycles

Xinhua, August 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III has signed a law promoting the safety of children riding motorcycles on public roads.

Malacanang, the presidential palace, released on Wednesday a copy of Republic Act (RA) No. 10666 or the "Children's Safety on Motorcycles Act of 2015," inked recently by the president.

The new law said it shall be unlawful for any person to drive a two-wheeled motorcycle with a child on board where there is heavy volume of vehicles, and there is a high density of fast-moving vehicles or where a speed limit of more than 60 km per hour is imposed.

Violators will be fined 3,000 pesos (65.6 U.S. dollars) on their first offense, 5,000 pesos (109.36 U.S. dollars) on second offense, and 10,000 pesos (218.72 U.S. dollars) on third and succeeding offenses.

On the third offense, a violator's license will be suspended for a month. Violation beyond the third time will result in the automatic revocation of the offender's license. Endi
