Xinhua, August 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

Eleven people were injured in an explosion in a chemical park in western Germany on Wednesday afternoon.

A tank sit outdoors in a chemical park in Krefeld, a western German city near Duesseldorf, exploded at around 14:00 (1200 GMT) on Wednesday and caused a nearby building to collapse, the city's police spokesman Acor Kniely told Xinhua by telephone.

Rescue forces had arrived at the scene, he said, adding that cause of the explosion remained unclear.

The chemical park's operator said in a statement that 11 employees working in the park were injured in the accident. Among them, two were injured seriously.

Titandioxid and nitrogen were detected at the scene briefly, the company said, air pollution measurement was undertaken and there was no danger to the neighbourhood.

According to local media, sound of the explosion could be heard in Duisburg about 20 kilometers away. Local residents were asked to close their windows though no smoke was seen above the chemical park. Endit
