Israel says no negotiations conducted with Hamas

Israeli officials sent a message to the Palestinian Authority charging that they are not conducting negotiations with Hamas on a long-term truce, the Times of Israel website reported on Wednesday.
According to the report, based on Palestinian sources, Israeli officials passed a message to the Palestinian Authority that no talks are conducted between Israel and the Gaza-ruling Hamas, despite previous reports to the contrary.
The move comes after several reports in local and international media outlets claimed Israeli officials are carrying out indirect talks with Hamas officials to reach understandings that would be the foundation for a long-term truce.
The Israeli Prime Minister's Office refused to comment on the report.
Israel and Hamas fought against each other for several times in the past years, including a 50-day war last summer called Operation Protective Edge.
More than 2,000 Palestinians and over 70 Israelis died, and destruction was caused to structures and infrastructure in the Gaza Strip. Endit
