Indian official expresses confidence in taking on terrorists in northwest border state

Xinhua, August 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

A senior Indian official said Wednesday that the northwest Indian state Punjab was well-equipped to take any terrorist activity head-on, after the northwest border state came under a terror attack last week.

Indo-Asian News Service quoted Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, Sukhbir Singh Badal, as saying that no one would be allowed to subvert peace in Punjab.

He also said the Punjab state government is committed to maintaining peace on the border and "any attempt to destabilize this hard won peace will not be tolerated".

He said the government had taken a decision to beef up the police force in the border areas with Pakistan.

Badal, who is also Punjab's home minister, made the comments after three militants killed seven people, including three policemen, in an attack on July 27 at a small border town in Punjab. Endi
