Nicaragua to host 6th Ibero-American Karate Championships

The 6th Ibero-American Karate Do Championships will be held in Nicaragua from Aug. 7 to 9, with some 180 athletes expected to take part, local media reported.

According to the Nicaraguan Karate Do Federation (Fenika Do), the countries that have confirmed their participation are the United States, Mexico, Spain, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Argentina, Peru, Curacao, Trinidad and Tobago, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic.

Also, all the Central American countries will participate, including Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Belice, Panama and the host country, Nicaragua.

Fenika Do President Emmerson Velasquez said in a statement that besides the traditional competitions kata and kumite, the event will also hold clinics and seminars for trainers and athletes.

This will be the second time Nicaragua hosts the Ibero-American Karate Do Championships. The competition has also been hosted by countries like Mexico, Spain, Venezuela and Dominican Republic. Endi
