Albanian ex-central bank governor charged with abuse of office

Xinhua, August 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

The ex-governor of Albanian central bank Ardian Fullani was charged with abuse of office and dereliction of duty over the bank theft case last year, Tirana prosecutors said on Tuesday.

Prosecutors have reached the conclusion that Fullani has failed to take appropriate measures to implement the supervisory council decision and directives and failure to do so has directly led to the theft of some 713 million lek (5.6 million U.S. dollars) from the Bank of Albania's vault.

Prosecutors also have raised charges against Fullani over the procedures for the purchase for 30 million euros (32.85 million U.S. dollars) of the Hotel Dajti in Tirana in 2010, according to Albanian telegraphic agency.

The investigation has found that former central governor Ardian Fullani was the person, who has informed the supervisory council members over the purchase of this state-owned property.

Tirana prosecutors allege that the former governor bears legal responsibility since he has ordered the launch of the procedures for the assessment of the real estate. Endit
