53 militants killed in recent Afghan clashes

A total of 53 militants have been killed in latest military operations and clashes with the security force across Afghanistan, the country's Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

"Within the past 24 hours, up to 53 militants killed while 57 others wounded in army military operations and three other armed opponents were detained in different provinces," the ministry said in a statement providing daily operation updates.

The statement said 10 Afghan army personnel also lost their lives in roadside and landmine explosions and enemy's firing within the same period.

The Taliban-led violence continues in Afghanistan. The security forces have pressed on clearing the militants in restive provinces as they assumed the full security charges from NATO-led troops since January 1.
