Georgia offers tax incentives for foreign filmmakers

Xinhua, August 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Georgian government has launched a tax rebate system to encourage foreign filmmakers in Georgia, the Georgian National Film Center said on Monday.

Aimed at developing local film industry and making Georgia an international filming location, the "Film in Georgia" initiative offers filmmakers a 20 percent rebate for qualifying expenses and an additional 2 percent for Georgian elements specifically featured in the film.

Feature films costing more than 300,000 U.S. dollars and documentaries more than 150,000 dollars are eligible for this rebate, with at least three days of shooting in Georgia.

David Vashadze, head of exports and distribution at the Georgian National Film Center, believes that the financial relief will play a crucial role in drawing foreign filmmakers to Georgia.

"We think that this decision is crucially important for the Georgian film industry. Many film production companies are looking for new and very diverse territories," he said.

This initiative is part of a broader state program named "Produce in Georgia", which is aimed at strengthening entrepreneurship and boosting the country's export potential. Endi
