Darmstadt sign former Berlin captain Peter Niemeyer

Xinhua, August 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Bundesliga newcomers Darmstadt sign Hertha Berlin midfielder Peter Niemeyer, the "Lilien" confirmed in an official statement on Monday.

Darmstadt bolster their midfield with the signing of Berlin's veteran midfielder Peter Niemeyer, who has put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Bundesliga newcomers.

"Peter Niemeyer was our desired player. As Berlin's former captain and long-term Bundesliga player he brings exactly what we were looking for. His signing increases the quality of our squad," Darmstadt head coach Dirk Schuster said.

The 31-year-old midfielder played five years for Hertha Berlin where he scored nine goals in 121 appearances.

"I am looking forward to this challenge here at Darmstadt. There will be a number of clashes along the lines of 'David versus Goliath', which are enormously interesting," Niemeyer said.

The Bundesliga newcomers encounter Hannover at the first round in Bundesliga on Aug. 15. Endi
