Colombia army says ELN rebels kill two soldiers

Xinhua, August 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Colombian army said two soldiers were killed and two others wounded on Sunday when National Liberation Army (ELN) insurgents attacked a pipeline in the northeastern department of Arauca.

"The incident took place in a rural area in Saravena municipality and was allegedly conducted by members of the ELN's Domingo Lain Saenz Front," said a military statement.

The assault was "intended to undermine the Cano Limon-Covenas pipeline regardless of the serious consequences for the environment and civil population," it added.

The Cano Limon-Covenas pipeline, one of the most important in Latin America, runs through an area with high guerrilla presence and has witnessed constant clashes between rebels and public forces.
