5 PKK militants killed in E. Turkey

Five Kurdish Workers Party (PKK) rebels were killed Friday in clashes with police and security forces in eastern Turkey, private Dogan news agency reported on Saturday.

Police staged an anti-terror operation in Fevzi Cakmak neighborhood of Agri province, killing three PKK militants, according to the report.

Later, two other PKK rebels were killed and another wounded in clashes with security forces and police in Catak town of Van province.

One police officer was killed and another one wounded in an attack by PKK members in Osmaniye province in southeastern Turkey, the report added.

Local NTV news reported that Turkish jets have launched a fresh wave of air strikes on several PKK positions in northern Iraq and southeastern Turkey, in response to recent PKK offenses against Turkish security forces.
