A pictorial exhibition featuring photos of state funeral of Singapore's founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew was launched here on Saturday.

Entitled "Memory in Prints: Lee Kuan Yew and Us", the travelling exhibition was officially opened by Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance.

"This is not just an exhibition on the late Mr Lee, it is an exhibition about Singaporeans and it documented an important milestone in Singapore's history, "said Lee Huay Leng, editor of Lianhe Wanbao at the opening ceremony.

Presented in English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil, the exhibition showcases photographs taken by Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) and freelance photographers during the seven-day state funeral in March. These photographs captured different ways in which the city state bade its final farewell to Lee Kuan Yew, who passed away at the age of 91 on March 23.

Apart from photos, the exhibition featured a rare display of Lee Kuan Yew's "foot-print", a kind donation of a mold of Lee's feet by his shoemaker Lee Kean Siong, who made shoes for the country's former prime minister.

In addition, the exhibition also showcases a gallery displaying Lee Kuan Yew-themed works created by local artists. The widely spread Lee Kuan Yew's name-squiggling portrait by Ong Yi Teck was showed. The 20-year-old artist created the portrait by writing Lee 's name 18,000 times.

Launched by Lianhe Wanbao, a Chinese evening daily published by SPH, the pictorial exhibition will run from Saturday to Sept. 7 in five different places in Singapore. Endi
