Thousands of Jordanians demonstrate, call for closing Israeli embassy

Xinhua, July 31, 2015 Adjust font size:

Thousands of Jordanians on Friday took to the streets to call for closing the Israeli embassy over violations against Al Aqsa Mosque.

During the demonstration held in down town Amman, the participants slammed Jordan's silence over repeated Israeli violations of storming the compounds of Al Aqsa Mosque.

They called for the closure of the Israeli embassy in Amman and expelling the Israeli ambassador, after several Israeli settlers stormed the yards of the mosque over the past few days.

Supporting Palestinians in Jerusalem, the demonstrators condemned all Israeli attempts to alter the Arabic identity of Jerusalem city.

The Al Aqsa Mosque is the third holiest site in Islam and the most holy site for Jews, who call it the Temple Mount and revere it as the site of their second temple. It was destroyed in 70 A.D.

Jordan oversees the Islamic and Christian holy sites in east Jerusalem which is envisioned as the future capital of the Palestinian state. Endit
