France voices concern over Israel's settlement expansion plan

France on Thursday voiced concern over Israeli authorities' approval to build more homes in East Jerusalem and West Bank.

In a statement, the country's foreign ministry called on Tel Aviv to end its settlement expansion plan in a bid to reach a lasting peace deal in the Middle East.

Paris called on Israel to end its settlement plan which "fuels tension and seriously threatens the viability of the two-state solution."

On Wednesday, Israel unveiled its plan to build 300 new homes in a Jewish settlement in the West Bank, which Palestinians said was the main obstacle to the creation of an independent state they are seeking in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Endit
