Small businesses dominating New Zealand industries: minister

Xinhua, July 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Small businesses generate 27 percent of New Zealand's gross domestic product and create 42 percent of all jobs, Small Business Minister Craig Foss said Thursday.

Foss was commenting on the release of a government factsheet on small businesses, which are classed as those with one to 19 employees, and their contribution to the economy in the year ending September 2013.

"This factsheet shows small businesses are consistently punching above their weight," Foss said in a statement.

"Small businesses dominate our industries, employing more than 105,000 people in rental, hiring and real estate; nearly 67,000 people in agriculture, forestry and fishing; and about 25,000 people in the retail trade," he said.

The factsheet showed 92 percent of businesses with six to 19 employees were connected to broadband and 66 percent had a website. Endi
