Deforestation to affect environment, economy in Albania

Xinhua, July 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

The surface of forests in Albania has decreased during the last ten years, said Albanian director of environmental agency Julian Beqiri on Wednesday.

The forest coverage has decreased from 33 percent ten years ago to 26 percent currently due to cuts, massive burns and erosion.

"Experts must intervene to resolve the problem of deforestation. Another helping factor is investment in damaged zones. Protected zones are also affected and we have lost a considerable area of forests," Beqiri said. Endit
