The 2015 Euro-Asia Economic Forum, scheduled on September 23-26, will be held in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, with the Silk Road Economic Belt high on the agenda, the organizer said Wednesday.
The forum aims to explore the innovation model of Asian and European countries in building the Silk Road Economic Belt and promote in-depth regional cooperation, said Li Jing, deputy secretary-general of the forum and deputy mayor of Xi'an.
The forum features several main seminars on cultural heritage, ecological safety, economic growth, education, energy development, financial cooperation and tourism development, offering a platform for exchanges between officials, businessman and experts from countries along the ancient Silk Road.
The Silk Road refers to the land trade route opened when Zhang Qian was sent west on a diplomatic mission more than 2,000 years ago. Starting from the city known today as Xi'an, the ancient Silk Road ran through northwest China's Gansu Province and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and Central and Western Asia, before reaching the Mediterranean.
