Indian PM expresses wish for stronger ties with Myanmar

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said his country is committed to building stronger ties with Myanmar including defense and security, said officials.
During his meeting with visiting Myanmar Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Modi said a strong and prosperous Myanmar is in India's interest and expressed Delhi's support to Myanmar in its endeavors for national development, according to an official release of the prime minister's office here.
Modi also expressed his best wishes for the upcoming elections in Myanmar to be peaceful, free and fair, according to the release.
India wants to develop greater connectivity on the roads with Myanmar, which is India's "gateway to ASEAN countries", according to the Indian prime minister.
Myanmar borders India's restive northeast region where there are numerous anti-government militants active on the border areas.
Indian troops staged a cross-border operation against Naga rebels at the Myanmar border last month, killing several rebels and destroying some camps of the militants. Endi
