Senior CPC official calls for more traditional opera masterpieces

Liu Qibao, head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, encouraged creation of more traditional Chinese opera masterpieces on Wednesday.

He made the remarks at a national work conference on traditional opera, saying that traditional opera should be created based on socialist core values and serve the people.

Liu called on artists to stick to and be confident of traditional Chinese culture, and create more works to be enjoyed by the public.

He stressed promotion of the development of different genres of opera and encouraged opera with elements of the new era.

Liu also called for improved system for the education of young opera artists and reforms that give more support to opera troupes. Endit
