Roundup: HK stocks close 0.47 pct higher

Hong Kong stocks ended higher on Wednesday with the benchmark Hang Seng index rising 0.47 percent, or 115.51 points to end at 24,619.45 points. Turnover totaled 85. 99 billion HK dollars (about 11.05 billion U.S. dollars).

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index rose 100.65 points, or 0. 9 percent, to close at 11,273.69.

Three sub-indices gained ground, with the Finance sub-index rising the most by 0.75 percent, followed by the Commerce and Industry's 0.33 percent and the Utility's 0.06 percent. The Properties lost 0.10 percent.

Banking giant HSBC, which accounts for the largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, rose 1.0 percent at 69.55 HK dollars, while its local unit Hang Seng Bank closed up 0.8 percent to 156.00 HK dollars. Local bourse operator HKEX went up 0.9 percent at 213.00 HK dollars.

Local developer Hang Lung Properties closed flat at 22.00 HK dollars. Henderson Land, another major developer in Hong Kong, closed flat at 51.30 HK dollars, and Cheung Kong Holding, a powerful HK-based developer controlled by billionaire Li Ka-shing, decreased 0.1 percent to 111.70 HK dollars.

As for mainland-based financial stocks, China Construction Bank, the country's second largest bank which accounts for the third largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, went up 1.4 percent to 6. 35 HK dollars. ICBC, the world's largest bank by market value, was up 1.1 percent to 5.46 HK dollars. Bank of China closed flat at 4. 26 HK dollars.
