French FM visits Iran for bilateral, regional talks

Xinhua, July 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

French Foreign Affairs Minister Laurent Fabius arrived in Tehran, capital of Iran, on Wednesday at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart for talks on bilateral and regional issues.

This visit is "a new beginning" for bilateral relations. Iran and France have responsibilities to restore peace and stability in the region, Fabius told state IRIB TV upon arriving in Tehran.

He visits Iran as a "politician," but a very important business delegation, comprising different French companies, will visit Iran in September, he was quoted as saying.

During his visit to Tehran, Fabius will meet Iran's President Hassan Rouhani and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif to discuss topics of mutual interest as well as regional and international issues.

The visit by the French Foreign Affairs Minister, the first such visit in more than a decade, comes after a recent nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers opened Teheran's doors to the West.

"I find it quite normal that from the moment this historic agreement took place, France and Iran can resume more normal relations," Fabius said last week. Endit
