Ugandan netball star gets two-year contract with UK club Loughborough

Shooter Peace Proscovia who will captain Uganda at the 2015 Netball World Cup next month has been added a two year contract with English Superleague side Loughborough Lightning.

In an exclusive interview with Xinhua on Tuesday, Proscovia said she is very delighted that after spending five months in the UK featuring for her new team, she has adapted well and is enjoying professional Netball.

"I am glad that my team has given me a two-year extension and also helped enroll me for a two year Masters Course," said the shooter.

The She Cranes player who is the first Ugandan to play professional Netball helped Loughborough Lightning finish sixth in the Superleague this season after coming third on the top scorers chart.

Speaking about the World Cup which runs August 7-16 in Australia, Proscovia who is a graduate of Uganda Catholic University (UCU) in Mukono said no team should take them lightly even if they do not have lot of experience.

"They should not underrate us because we have the determination to carry the Ugandan flag high," added the captain.

But before action starts in the World Cup, the Uganda She Cranes will have the chance of facing Samoa on August 6th in an International friendly in Sydney.

"We have managed to fix a game against Samoa which will help us prepare better," said Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) President Susan Nowel Anek Ongom.

The Ugandan team is expected to fly out on an Emirates Airlines flight on Aug. 1. Hosts Australia, Uganda, Zambia, Malawi and South Africa, New Zealand, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, England, Jamaica, Scotland, Samoa, Singapore and Sri Lanka will all compete for the title. Endi
