A Ugandan team will represent the Europe and Africa region in the top 2015 Little League Baseball World Series slated for Aug. 20-30 in South Williamsport, United States.

Paul Nkubito Kateregga, the Development Director at Uganda Little League Baseball told Xinhua on Tuesday that this is great that a team from Uganda will be in the US to showcase their talent.

To qualify for the world event, the Ugandan team from AVRS Secondary School Little League won the qualifying championship for Europe and African Region Championship that took place in Kutno, Poland this month.

The team defeated Catalunya Little League from Barcelona, Spain in the final.

Fourteen teams took part in the eight-day event held at the Little League Baseball European Leadership Training Center in Kutno.

"This is testimony that we have abundant talent in Uganda because we were in the big tournament in 2012 and will be making it there for the second time," added Kateregga.

In 2012, the Ugandan team from Lugazi Little League won the then-Middle East and Africa Region Championship to become the first team from Africa to participate in the Little League Baseball World Series history.

During the 2012 World Series, the team from Uganda showed exemplary sportsmanship, winning the Jack Losch World Series Team Sportsmanship Award, and finished with one win and two losses.

The Europe and Africa Region Champion will face off against the Caribbean Region Champion in the very first game of the Little League Baseball World Series on Aug. 20.

The other teams that will take part include; Tung Yuan Little League (Chinese Taipei), Cronulla Little League (Australia), Los Bravos de Pontezuella Little League (Dominican Republic), Tokyo Kitasuna Little League (Japan), Cardenales Little League (Venezuela) and Seguro Social Little League (Mexico).
