1st LD Writethru: 2 killed in building collapse near Mumbai

Xinhua, July 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least two people were killed and several others reportedly trapped in debris after a four-story building collapsed in Thane near India's financial hub Mumbai Tuesday night, local media reported.

Six people have been rescued, local TV Times Now said.

The building, called Matry Chhaya in Thakurli of Thane, collapsed at around 23:00 p.m. local time.

The narrow lanes and mushrooming unauthorized structures in the vicinity are making it difficult for rescue and relief teams to reach the site with heavy machinery, said the report.

Fire officials said buildings neighboring Matry Chhaya also suffered damages due to the incident.

Two weeks ago, five people were killed in a building collapse in the western part of the Indian capital. Endi
