46 submit for candidacy of 2015 general election: election committee

For the upcoming general election, a total of 46 persons had submitted their names to the Union Election Commission (UEC) until July 26, a statement released by UEC said on Monday.

An official of UEC told Xinhua that it had received the candidate list for 10 seats of House of Representatives (Lower House), 4 seats of House of Nationalities (Upper House), 23 seats of region or state parliaments and nine seats of region or state parliaments for National Races.

Among these 46 candidates, 13 were individual candidates and 33 from political parties including five seats of Myanmar's ruling Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), one of National League for Democracy (NLD), seven of National Democratic Force ( NDF) and 14 of National Unity Party (NUP).

UEC has designated a total of 1,171 constituencies of four levels of parliament representatives, including 330 constituencies set for the House of Representatives (Lower House), 168 for the House of Nationalities (Upper House), 644 for region or state parliaments and 29 for region or state parliaments for National Races.

There are a total of 88 registered political parties to compete in this year's general election.

2015 general election, set to take place on November 8, is to produce representatives to the next term of the parliament which will form a government for a new term starting 2016.

The current five-year term of the government which started from March 2011 is to expire in March 2016. Endi
