Cambodian King has no plan to convene party leaders to discuss border issues: statement

Xinhua, July 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni has no plan to meet with the leaders of three major political parties over ongoing border issues, according to a press statement released by the Ministry of Royal Palace on Monday. "His Majesty the King has not thought, or said, or planned to convene the leaders of the three main political parties to discuss border issues," the statement said.

It added that "If there is any important discussion relevant to national interest, the king will talk with Prime Minister Hun Sen and the monarch has never had habit to consult with political parties."

The statement came after local media quoted Prince Norodom Ranariddh, president of royalist Funcinpec Party and head of the Supreme Privy Advisory Council to the king as saying on Saturday that the king is planning to summon Prime Minister Hun Sen to a meeting with Sam Rainsy, president of the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party, over border issues with Vietnam.

The prince also said that he would be invited for such a meeting as president of the Funcinpec Party. Enditem
