Bushfires rage in southern Albania due to high temperature

Xinhua, July 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Dozens of hectares of forests, olive trees and bushes were burned on Saturday night and Sunday by the bushfire in southern Albania, the forest department said on Sunday.

Local authorities said that nearly 80 hectares of forests have been burned in Rroms and Drenova, while 10 hectares of olive trees have been burned in Belishova.

Firefighters of the forest department and military worked during Saturday night, but did not manage to extinguish flames entirely due to the wind.

Agim Hoxha, director of albanian forest department said that the work was made even more difficult because of the mountainous terrain, according to Albanian daily news.

The fires also threatened the oil wells in this area, but it was reported that some firefighters were placed near them in order to prevent flames. Endit
