Hamilton takes pole position in F1 Hungarian Grand Prix

Current Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton, driving for Mercedes, took the pole position in the time trials at Mogyorod track near Budapest on Saturday, ahead of Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix.

Hamilton's arch-rival and teammate Nico Rosberg was second, while four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, driving for Ferrari, was third. Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo was fourth, completing the second row.

They'll be followed in Row 3 by Vettel's Ferrari teammate Kimi Raikkonen, and Valtteri Bottas, driving for Williams. Red Bull's Daniil Kvyat and Williams' Felipe Massa will make up Row 4. Completing the top ten are Toro Rosso's Max Verstappen and Lotus' Romain Grosjean in row five.

This is the 30-year-old Hamilton's ninth pole position of the year and comes following three practice sessions in which he produced the fastest track times.

Hamilton has won the Hungarian Grand Prix four times to date (2007, 2009, 2012, and 2013), which currently ties him with Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher for most wins.

Hamilton, who clocked a sizzling 1 minute 22.020 seconds over Rosberg's 1 minute 22.595 seconds, currently leads Rosberg by 17 points in drivers standings, while Ferrari's Vettel, down by 59 points, is in third place. Vettel's 1 minute 22.739 seconds was the third fastest time trial result.

The second time trial was red-flagged when McLaren's Fernando Alonso failed to make it into the box and had to get out and push the vehicle.
