Police kill 7 militants in S. Afghanistan

Units of police backed by the army have killed seven militants in Taliban former stronghold the southern Helmand and Zabul provinces over the past 24 hours, said a statement of Interior Ministry released here Saturday.

"Seven Taliban rebels have been killed, three others injured and another made captive during a crackdown against insurgents in parts of Helmand and Zabul provinces since Friday morning," the statement said.

It didn't say if there were casualties on security personnel.

Taliban militants who are active in the restive southern region haven't made comment. Endi
