Germany's benchmark DAX index closes down

The benchmark DAX index at Frankfurt Stock Exchange on Friday lost more than 160 points and closed at 11,347.45 points.

The blue-chip index dropped abruptly in the afternoon trading and local analysts attributed it to disappointing financial figures of some leading companies in Germany. The DAX index lost 164.66 points, or 1.43 percent.

Deutsche Lufthansa AG was the only one among the 30 DAX member shares, which managed to rise. It climbed by 0.2 percent.

BASF SE lost 4.55 percent. Volkswagen AG Vz slipped by 2.72 percent. BMW AG St plunged by 2.19 percent. Daimler AG slid by 2.19 percent. LANXESS AG, a specialty chemicals company, went down by 1.87 percent.

The turnover stood at 3.48 billion euros (around 3.82 billion U.S. dollars). BASF SE was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 525.91 million euros (around 576.67 million U.S. dollars). Endit
