China's He and Xie reach men's 1m springboard final on opening day of Kazan worlds

Xinhua, July 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

Chinese divers He Chao and Xie Siyi reached the men's one-meter springboard final on the opening day of the Kazan world championships here on Friday.

Xie finished second after six solid dives with 404.40 points, while He ranked fifth with 394.95. Mexico's Jahir Angel Ocampo Marroquin led the preliminary with 412.70.

"I was a litter nervous during the competition," said the 19-year-old Xie. "It is my first world championships and I am still finding my rhythm."

Xie will also take part in the team event with Olympic champion Chen Ruolin.

He Chao, 23, is also a world championships debutant, but he said he was very calm in the competition.

"I just took it as a normal competition," said He Chao, the little brother of Olympic champion He Chong. "I made a mistake in my last dive, but I am confident I will do better in the final."

He said he had no jet lag. "Jet lag has never been a problem for me," he said. "I have good sleep after arriving."

The Kazan worlds runs from July 24 to August 9. Endi
