EuroCham partners with Cambodian authorities in fighting against corruption

Xinhua, July 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

The European Chamber of Commerce (EuroCham) in Cambodia, which has 203 companies as members, signed an agreement with Cambodia's Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) on Friday, expressing its commitment to help rid the country of corruption.

The deal was inked between EuroCham Cambodia's chairman Emmanuel Menanteau and ACU chairman Om Yentieng.

Under the deal, EuroCham Cambodia needs to educate its members not to pay bribes and must report to the ACU if any official demands unofficial payment from those companies.

"The agreement clearly shows EuroCham's commitment to join the Cambodian government in eliminating unofficial business practices, " Om Yentieng said.

Emmanuel Menanteau said EuroCham was the first business chamber in Cambodia that signed the anti-corruption agreement with the ACU.

"The promotion of business ethics and standards such as full compliance with the law will undoubtedly be appealing to European investors as it will encourage a leveled playing field and fair competition for all businesses," he said.

"In short, the less corruption there will be in Cambodia, the more European investors will willingly join the market and contribute to economic growth," he added.

The ACU was launched in 2010. Since then, it has investigated a number of corruption cases and brought many corrupt officials to court for legal punishment. Endi
