MPs should do their best to serve residents wherever new electoral boundaries be drawn: Singapore's PM

Xinhua, July 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Wherever the new electoral boundaries may be drawn, members of parliament (MPs) should serve the residents they represent to the best of their ability, said Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong after the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee (EBRC) released its report on Friday.

Lee wrote in his Facebook account that some electoral boundaries have had to be changed to make smaller Group Representation Constituencies (GRCs) and more Single Member Constituencies (SMCs), which will be the electoral configuration in the next general election.

Lee urged MPs to continue serving the residents with the best of their ability and also called on voters to support the candidates or teams who will best represent their interests, both in the constituency and as the government of Singapore.

According to the newly-released report, 2,460,977 Singaporeans have registered to vote ahead of the next general election. The number of electors has increased from 2,350,257 electors recorded in the 2011 Registers of Electors. Endite
