Cote d'Ivoire's workers issue strike notice

Xinhua, July 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Workers in Cote d'Ivoire's trade ministry will go on a three-day strike from Monday next week to demand "better working and living conditions," union officials said Thursday.

A strike notice signed by the secretary general of the union of workers in the trade ministry, Patrice Toto, said the workers will be on strike between July 27 to 29.

The union warned that if their demands are not met satisfactorily, they will have to call for an "indefinite" strike.

They are demanding an 'immediate' payment of allowances and benefits due to employees in the trade ministry, as well as 'urgent' signing of an internal document on promotions in the ministry.

In October last year, the union called for a strike over the same issues.

The union officials have said the proposed strike is justifiable because of the failure by the government to "honour" terms of the previous agreement. Endit
