Albanian agricultural exports towards regional, European markets growing

Albanian agricultural exports towards regional and European markets in general and in particular those of fruits and vegetables increased considerably in the first six months of 2015, official figures showed on Thursday.

According to data released on Thursday by the Albanian Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Rural development, for example in Berat district, the total volume of agricultural exports at the end of this semester was 21,703 tons of products, compared with 10,455 tons a year ago, marking a doubling of exports.

In Lushnja district, by the end of the first six months of 2015, 36,023 tons of agricultural products passed through customs for export, compared with 18,909 tons in the previous year.

Despite severe flooding of this year, in Fier, Vlora, Berat districts, the production of wheat in the six-month period is greater than the annual production of the previous year. So in Elbasan district, wheat production for this six-month period is 40,134 tons compared with annual production of 36,400 tons last year.

Growth has been noted even in the production of eggs and milk. For the first time Albania exported fresh eggs to the EU markets, after ISO certification of some of the producers. Until now, Albania has exported to Germany 10 million eggs and by the end of the year it is foreseen that the exports will grow to 60 million eggs. Endit
