Afghan's Salang Tunnel blocked as militants attacked police convoy

Xinhua, July 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Salang Tunnel which connects Afghan capital Kabul to the northern provinces was blocked for a while on Thursday after armed militants attacked a convoy of police on the southern part of the essential pass, a private television channel Tolo reported.

"The Salang Pass was blocked for hours after the insurgents attacked police vehicles in Walang area on Thursday," Tolo said in its news bulletin.

Meantime, the governor of Salang district, Sabir Ahmadi in talks with Tolo said that the militants fled the area after the police there responded to the fire of the assailants.

This is the first time that the essential Salang Pass which connects Afghan capital Kabul to the eight northern provinces came under attack. Endi
