Mexico's Tigres UANL advance to Copa Libertadores final

Xinhua, July 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Mexico's Tigres UANL advanced to the final of the Copa Libertadores on Wednesday by securing a 4-3 aggregate victory in their semifinal against Brazil's Internacional.

Tigres won the second leg at Estadio Universitario 3-1 after losing last week's match in Porto Alegre 2-1.

Andre-Pierre Gignac opened the scoring in the 18th minute before Geferson turned the ball into his own net to make it 2-0 on the stroke of halftime. Egidio Arevalo Rios further extended the hosts' lead with a header just before the hour mark.

Tigres were forced to endure a tense final few minutes when Lisandro Lopez struck for the visitors in the 89th minute. Another goal for Internacional would have seen them through to the final by virtue of scoring more away goals.

The Monterrey-based club will face Argentina's River Plate in the final over two legs on July 29 and August 5. Endi
