Serbia, Bosnia to boost economic, political ties

Xinhua, July 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Members of the Bosnian Presidency and Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic on Wednesday agreed to further improve economic and political relations.

Dragan Covic, Bakir Izetbegovic and Mladen Ivanic visited Belgrade on the invitation of Vucic. The Serbian leader faced protestors in Srebrenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, while attending a ceremony on July 11 in honor of Bosniaks killed in the town during the 1995 war.

Vucic said that leaders of the two countries discussed concrete projects and topics in the areas of infrastructure, energy, tourism, and defense, which will be analyzed by working groups in the following weeks to find possibilities for cooperation.

"Serbia hopes for the best possible relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina," Vucic said, adding that the two sides could join efforts to participate in markets of other countries, boosting employment and money flow.

Members of the presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina agreed with Vucic that the two countries are opening a new chapter in their relations that will improve their trade as well as their stability.

Covic, the Croat member of the presidency, said leaders of the two countries should focus on the future and to boost their cooperation.

Izetbegovic, the Bosniak member of the presidency, stressed that all war crimes should be processed between two countries, and all the perpetrators should be put on trial.

Ivanic, member from Republika Srpska, said the Serbian people will make progress towards the EU along with Bosniaks and Croats, and that the stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina is in the interest of Bosnian Serbs.

It was agreed that the two governments would hold a joint session in September, while Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic was invited to visit Sarajevo. Endit
