ARM Holdings Plc, a Cambridge-based chip designer, Wednesday announced that its second quarter revenue increased by 15 percent to 357.1 million U.S. dollars, compared with that of the same period of last year.
Revenue from processor royalty was up 31 percent on year-on-year basis in the second quarter of 2015, while processor licensing revenue was up by merely three percent, said ARM in a statement.
Normalized profit before tax and earnings per share soared by 32 percent and 34 percent year-on-year respectively, data showed.
ARM-based chips shipment increased by 26 percent year-on-year to 3.4 billion units. The technology group also saw a record of 54 processor licenses signed for a broad range of applications in the second quarter.
In regards to the market outlook, the ARM statement said: "Available industry data for the second quarter, being the shipment period for ARM's Q3 royalties, points to a small sequential increase in industry revenues. Royalty revenue can grow faster than the overall industry due to increasing royalty per chip in mobile devices, and share gains beyond mobile."
Simon Segars, Chief Executive Officer of ARM, said:" ARM has been investing in advanced technology products for mobile devices, automotive applications and enterprise infrastructure, and in Q2 ARM signed licenses for many of these new products. This licensing activity will help to grow the royalty revenue opportunity for years to come."
