Tokyo stocks open sharply lower following Wall St. losses

Tokyo stocks fell 0.85 percent in early trading Wednesday following declines on Wall Street overnight.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 177. 87 points, or 0.85 percent, from Tuesday to 20,664.10. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 13.49 points, or 0.81 percent, to 1,660.39.

Decliners were led by banks, mining and electric machinery. Endi
