A tropical depression is expected to land in south China's Guangdong Province Monday night, bringing strong gales and downpours, the local weather bureau said.

The tropical depression, upgraded from a monsoon Monday afternoon, was about 175 km south off the coast of Yangjiang City at 2 p.m., with winds sweeping at 50 to 60 km per hour at its eye, the provincial meteorological station said in a press release.

It said the depression was moving north at 15 km per hour and was expected to land in Zhuhai or Dianbai.

Most areas in the central, western and southern parts of the province were in for stormy weather, it said.

The weather bureau has forecast downpour in Zhuhai, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Yangjiang, Maoming and Zhanjiang cities Monday night and Tuesday.

All ships, fishing vessels and leisure boats had been recalled by 5 p.m.
