Firefighters struggling to put out fires along Croatian coast

Croatian firefighters and volunteers on Tuesday continued to fight the forest fires that are burning along Croatian Adriatic coast.

Croatian Ministry of Defence sent 50 soldiers to help extinguishing fires.

One biggest fire, started near the village of Pijavicino, the southern coast of Croatia on Monday, has burned over 400 acres of forest and 50 inhabitants were evacuated, besides cutting electricity in the part of the peninsula.

Supported by planes and helicopters, 120 firefighters and volunteers are trying to put out the fire.

In southern island of Korcula, another forest fire has been burning from weekend and has burnt over 500 acres of forest. Some 150 firefighters and volunteers were sent there.

Firefighters have put out some fires in Croatian northern coast near the town on Pazin and Rijeka on Tuesday. Enditem
