India says to acquire 36 French fighter jets on Air Force approved configuration

Xinhua, July 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

India said Tuesday that it would acquire 36 Rafale fighter jets from France on Indian Air Force- approved configuration only.

Indian Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar informed the Parliament that the jets and associated weapons would be delivered by French manufacturer Dassault Aviation in the same configuration as had been tested and approved by the Indian Air Force.

During Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Paris earlier this year, the Indian government told France that it would like to acquire 36 Rafale jets in fly-away condition at the earliest.

The delivery of the planes would be in time-frame that would be compatible with the operational requirement of the Indian Air Force, the Defense Minister said. Endi
