South Korea on Tuesday lodged a strong protest against Japan's renewed territorial claim to Dokdo,a pair of rocky outcroppings called Takeshima in Japan, as the cabinet led by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe approved its annual defense white paper.

MANILA -- Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III approved Tuesday two laws that will further increase trade and encourage more investments in the country.

SYDNEY -- A woman was arrested north of Sydney on Tuesday after allegedly poisoning her nine-year-old daughter to the point the child was left fighting for her life.

MANILA -- Leftist rebels in Philippines attacked 11 military and a police station in the Bicol region of northern Philippines in less than 24 hours, starting Sunday night,leaving one rebel dead and a police officer, a militiaman, and six civilians injured, the military said on Tuesday.
Citing reports from the field, Maj.
