4 Italians kidnapped near Libya's oil plant

Four Italians have been kidnapped in Libya's western city of Mellitah, Libya's official LANA agency confirmed on Monday.

The report said the four were taken near the Italian Eni oil and gas company complex. They are employees of the Bonatti construction company.

It's still unclear which organization was behind the incident.

Libya, the North African major oil producer, has been plagued by kidnappings and assassinations since the downfall of Muammar Gaddafi's government in 2011.

The recent fighting between Islamist groups and pro-secular militia have severely aggravated the security situation. Endit
