At least five soldiers were killed and seven others wounded in an attack by militants at a military checkpoint in Egypt' north Sinai on Saturday, state-run MENA news agency reported.
The report said the attack involved shooting and rocket firing, while the checkpoint close to the town of Sheikh Zuweid is still opened.
The al-Qaida-inspired Sinai State, which has vowed loyalty to the Islamic State (IS) militant group, claimed in a statement responsibility for the attack.
The attack came days after the recent wave of terrorist attacks in North Sinai and other provinces, including capital Cairo.
On July 11, a car bomb exploded outside the Italian consulate in downtown Cairo, killing a civilian and wounding nine others. The incident came days after another car bomb attack in Cairo, which killed the country's top prosecutor Hisham Barakaton.
The Sinai State militants claimed responsibility for most of post-Morsi anti-government attacks. Endit
