The U.S. city of Muscatine, Iowa opened a culture center in Jinan, capital city of east China's Shandong Province, on Friday to strengthen mutual cultural and economic exchanges.

The Muscatine center aims to show the city's history and folk customs through pictures and video. Chinese visitors are able to experience the Midwestern American lifestyle and learn about local economic development and agricultural technology.

DeWayne Hopkins, the mayor of Muscatine, said the center hopes to show Muscatine's industry, culture, education and lifestyle to the Chinese people.

Muscatine has been called the "Pearl of the Mississippi."

The culture center was jointly established by the China Confucius Foundation, the city of Muscatine and China Window Group. Endit
