Chinese shares surged during afternoon trading session after opening slightly higher on Friday amid rising market confidence.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose more than 4 percent to nearly 3,900 points. The smaller Shenzhen Component Index and ChiNext Index jumped by around 6 percent.

Companies in military industries led the rise following stellar performance on the previous trading day.

Analysts attribute the rise to recovering market confidence due to government's supportive measures. Endi
