Croatia to build LNG project in Krk inland

Xinhua, July 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

Croatian Government announced on Thursday it planned to construct a liquefied natural gas terminal (LNG) project in the island of Krk.

Croatian Vice Prime Minister Branko Grcic said the project was the strategic one for Croatia since it "became strategic for the whole European Union in terms of energy security".

The LNG project was important for the Croatia's economic growth and would impact on other industries, he added.

The terminal in the Krk inland, the northern Adriatic coast of Croatia, would enable receiving gas from tankers or potential pipelines, supplying gas for Croatia and the region, he said.

The LNG project was estimated worth around 600 million euros (653.9 million U.S. dollars), he said.

The construction would start in the mid-2016 and would last for 3 years, according to Grcic.

Terminal would have the capacity of between 4 and 6 billion cubic metres of gas per year. Among them some of 2.7 billion cubic metres would be for Croatian and the remain would be supplied to the region and EU Countries, he said. (1 euro = 1.08 U.S. dollars) Endit
